So many things to consider when trying to sell your art.

I've heard of artists who sell their work at sites like etsy.com. I've also heard of artists getting their work copied and posted on that very same site. It's tough enough being original these days. Especially for photographers. There are so many artists out there working in the so few mediums that most artwork looks similar. Is setting up my own website the way to go? Will I be able to drive enough traffic to my site? Sure it's nice to tell a gallery owner to check out my website. Are galleries the way to go at all? Artshows are a big time investment not to mention entry fees only if the jurors accept your work. O.K. now I'm rambling on. Anybody have any success selling their work thru online galleries or getting galleries/stores to show your work?
